The 27th annual Route 66 On the Air event begins on September 12 at 00:00 UTC and runs through September 20 at 23:59 UTC. This year, 23 amateur radio stations will be active along historic Route 66, stretching from Chicago to Santa Monica, California.
The challenge for operators is to contact all 23 participating stations for a complete “clean sweep.” It may not be easy, but it promises to be a fun and rewarding challenge for amateur radio operators. Stations will operate on multiple bands and modes, depending on propagation and operating conditions.
The Northern Arizona DX Association, which originally created the event in 2000, will once again be active with stations including W6G and W6G/P, along with two rover stations. One rover will operate near historic Route 66 east of Winona, Arizona, while the second will be at a new location west of Flagstaff on Old Route 66 near Naval Observatory Road. It will feature three operating positions covering SSB, FT8/FT4, and an additional station for SSB and possibly CW.
